This article looks at the steps you need to take to set up your program's performance hubs, i.e. connecting learners with their supporting contacts.
The details of HOW to carry out each step can be found within the articles that are referenced within them, but the purpose of this section is to provide an overview of the process and the reasons behind the suggested order.
- Set up the program role types & relationship types through ‘Hub setup’
This should be one of the first things you do when setting up your program. It is important to consider the roles that will make up your performance hub (e.g. manager, trainer, mentor) before you commence with the content creation. One of the reasons being that the responsibilities of each role in supporting the learner through their journey will likely shape the kinds of activities that are needed.
On a technical level, the relationship types must be defined in the system before you can set the ‘approvers’ and ‘feedbackers’ for each activity…
- Add approvals and feedback to activities through ‘Manage curriculum’
When creating an activity, you will notice there are dropdowns for ‘Approve by’ and ‘Feedback by’.
It is your program’s relationship types that are listed here as options (only if they have the ‘Approvals’ and ‘Feedback’ capabilities) and so if you find the dropdowns are empty then you need to go back to ‘Program hub setup’ and add them. These are both optional but highly recommended to increase interaction and engagement between hub members.
- Enroll participants into their roles through ‘Manage participants’
Role types must be set up (step 1) before participants can be enrolled into a program.
- Assign relationships through ‘Manage participants’
Relationship types must be set up (step 1) and participants enrolled (step 3) before they can be assigned relationships with one another.
In summary, ROLE TYPES determine the view a participant has with the platform and are required for enrollment, whilst RELATIONSHIP TYPES determine how participants interact with others and are required to assign relationships. APPROVAL and FEEDBACK determine the relationship types who will be required to take action after the learner completes an activity.
Participants are added into ROLES, which gives them access to the system, and then assigned RELATIONSHIPS, with others to establish the connection (i.e. who can see who in their contacts page).
