In December 2024, the On.Board CMS system that is powered by Umbraco was updated to the latest software version.
The enhancements to the user experience are mainly navigational with the following features highlighted:
1. Direct URL access to the CMS
Content creators and editors will now be able to access the CMS directly using this URL link: https://cm.onboarding42.com. Once logged in, users will have visibility of all Programs that they have administrative access to - making it easier to build programs and share/copy content around.
2. Screen/page layout
Users will notice that the screen layout of the CMS will look slightly different than in the previous version. The Content and Media tabs now appear at the top of screen (rather than in a left hand screen menu), and each has its own dashboard and tools:
- the Content section is still where you manage the Programs that you have administrative access to, organised in a tree structure down the left hand side of the screen.
- the Media section is where your images and video files are stored.
The Info section is now also positioned at the top of the screen and users can find more detailed information in the History section such as the name of the user who has published content or made changes:
The final thing that you will notice with regards to page layout changes is that the activity specific features of a Link Activity and a Package Activity, the section where you input the URL or package file, now appears at the bottom of the Content screen, after the Asset Reference field:
3. Activity Icons
You will notice that there is a slight difference in the appearance of the Activity Icons that are displayed for each different activity:
4. Form Builder for Learner Form and Two-Part Form Activities
The design of the form builder for Learner Form and Two-Part Form activities has been enhanced to provide a more visual experience. The fields that you can choose to add into your form remain the same but once it appears in the form builder, you will see a text description of the field type (rather than an icon in the previous version) Once built, users can change the form layout by dragging and dropping the rows and fields around as required.
5. Actions
In this new version of the CMS, the Action: Change Document Type is no longer supported and is therefore removed from the list of available action functions. If a user has a scenario where they need to change the 'type' of activity in a program, they will need to create a new activity in the correct 'activity type' and replicate the content and settings that existed in the previous one.
6. Program List
As mentioned, users now have visibility of ALL the programs that they have admin access to and these are listed in the collapsible tree structure on the left hand side of the screen. This program list is displayed in a system generated format however, the user has the ability to sort or order this list into a preferred format; this could be by 'creation date' or in alphabetical order or the user can simply drag and drop the program name into an order of their choosing in order to 'pin' most used programs to the top. Please also note that the Repository is also contained within this list of programs (and not pinned to the top) so a user will need to scroll through the program list in order to locate it - and manually drag and drop to the top of the list should they prefer it to remain there.
Please see this short video that will describe this program ordering process in more detail:
